Gender Task Force
The Gender Task Force of the AU Peace and Security Department was created in 2017 and is responsible for:
- Identifying all gaps and priorities in the integration of gender and the promotion of the women, peace and security agenda in the respective Divisions
- Providing feedback and advice to Divisions in the PSD and the African Union Liaison Offices to ensure that gender is mainstreamed in their programme, planning and budgeting processes
- Providing expertise on thematic issues on Women Peace and Security pertaining to the work of the respective Divisions
Tasks, roles and responsibilities of PSD gender focal points are:
- Support PSD on gender mainstreaming by participating in the formulation of the Divisions’ work plan and integrating gender in the annual programming;
- Provide expertise on gender mainstreaming and WPS on thematic issues covered by the Division’s work;
- Monitor the implementation of gender activities as per annually agreed activity plan and targets;
- Coordinate PSD interventions on gender, peace and security and enhance communication and support to AULOs and missions on gender peace and security;
- Participate in gender- related activities;
- Consolidate Divisions progress reports on gender to feed into the PSD reports and the annual reporting on Gender, Peace and Security and implementation of UNSCR1325 and related resolutions;
- Support the Special Envoy on WPS and contribute to enhancing internal and external communication on issues of Gender and Women, Peace and Security agenda.
