Regional African Commitments on WPS

1993 November

Kampala Action Plan on Women and Peace adopted by the Regional Conference on Women, Peace and Development

The Regional conference was organized in response to the concerns about the increasing number of intra-state wars and violent conflicts in the continent in which women have been the major victims. It was an opportune time to examine the situation of women in the process of political changes and the role they play in conflict resolution and peace-building preparatory to the Fifth Regional Conference in Dakar, Senegal 1994, and the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, 1995.
